The
previous two pages are a true description of LCR which is used
extensively in the states. In the UK however, we use IDA (Indirect
Access) although most people still refer to it as LCR.
Simply put the difference between the two is that with IDA
you sign up with one alternative carrier and your phone system
chooses between BT or the second carrier for each call. The
advantage here is that you only have to deal with two telephone
bills, not a desk full.
At first glance you may think that true LCR is better due
to the choice of carriers available on a call by call basis.
But the truth is that once BT have been bypassed, the cost
difference between each of the other carriers is negligible
and not worth; the extra paperwork, phone bills and system
programming that is required.
